Decisions, Decisions, Decisions

Interesting. Before long, Cindy and I will be in a situation weʼve never been in before. Weʼll need to consider where we will worship. What a foreign thought! That decision was always made for us because of other decisions over the years. It never was an issue until now.

Where do we go from here? Where will we find a worshiping community that is even nearly like this one?

On the way into the office this morning, I turned the radio on to hear part of a sermon broadcast on NPR. This is the portion I caught: “What should we do? Change our residents? But Jesus is coming again soon and where would he look for us?” Whatever church that thinking represented would be cut from my list of possibilities. I canʼt see us at First Baptist, Dallas. While there are a few Methodist congregations in the area that are Welcoming (same as our O&A designation) that denomination has a steadfast rule banning ordination of LGBTs. Not a good fit for us.

We have considered attending private services at “Meditation By the Backyard Pool” on Sunday mornings, but I wonder how long that would be satisfying.

I appreciate the empathy shown to us by this congregation though. Other than asking if we plan to stay in our present home, this is the most often asked question. I think thatʼs because you recognize this is a unique worshiping community. You love it. You value it. And as those who have come before you, you are working to see that its history is not forgotten and its legacy is not lost.

We wonʼt be here in body after June 30th, but we will always and forever be with Midway Hills Christian Church in Spirit, in prayer, in thought and in a deep love and respect for each one of you and the journey in faith you share.
